Sabato 2 giugno, alle 19.30, un gruppo di ciclisti diretti al campeggio (legale) di Reddilich sono stati attaccati dalla polizia.

I cisclisti sono stati accompagnati da 6 camionette della polizia fin dalla loro partenza. Quando stavano lasciando Rostock sulla strada B105, la polizia ha acceso le sirene. Il gruppo si è fatto da parte sul lato della strada per far passare le camionette. Quando la polizia li ha affiancati ha cercato di prenderli per farli cadere per terra. I ciclisti sono stati colpiti con i manganelli e con spray al peperoncino da una distanza inferiore al metro.

Questi eventi suscitano del panico. Per far sbollire la situazione e proteggere loro stessi, i ciclisti hanno deciso di correre alla stazione di servizio più vicina. Dei sostenitori provenienti dal campeggio di Reddelich li hanno poi raggiunti per riaccompagnarli.

I manganellatori sono spariti, e altri dieci cellulari di un’altra unità della polizia ha seguito il gruppo di ciclisti filmandoli fino al loro arrivo al campeggio.

“Non c’era stato nessun segnale dalla polizia per questo attacco immotivato. Sembra sia stato un atto vendicativo per il fallimento dell’operazione di polizia condotta alla manifestazione di sabato” ha detto uno dei ciclisti.

Iniziano le manifestazioni e la polizia inizia con le provocazioni per cercare di arrestare più manifestanti possibile fin da subito, così da avere il compito facilitato nei prossimi giorni per gestire le manifestazioni contro il vertice avendo la maggior parte del blocco militante in galera con accuse pretestuose, ma comunque fuori gioco.

Pare però che ieri non gli sia andata troppo bene questa operazione… hanno raggranellato solo una ottantina di manifestanti… immagino che tendessero ad arrestare almeno 500 persone.

Al solito sui motivi dell’opposizione al vertice non parla quasi nessuno sebbene questo pianeta tra distruzione ambientale e guerra non sembra vada proprio al massimo.

Manifestazione internazionale contro il vertice del G8 a Rostock!
Com’era prevedibile la giornata di apertura ufficiale delle mobilitazioni contro il summit G8 è stata caratterizzata da duri scontri tra manifestanti e polizia.

Circa centomila persone hanno riempito la cittadina di Rostock dalla prima mattinata, con treni e pulmann, raggiungendo i concentramenti dei due cortei: uno dei partiti e sindacati filo-istituzionali e uno radicale dei gruppi e movimenti autorganizzati.

Nel frattempo avrebbe dovuto svolgersi una manifestazione di nazisti e dell’NPD a Schwerin, ma è stata vietata come pure il presidio antifascista. La notizia che circola è che i gruppi di destra vogliano manifestare a Rostock (in realtà manifesteranno in 150 nel pomeriggio a Berlino sotto la porta di Brandeburgo). Gli antifà che avevano raggiunto Schwerin verranno invece fermati in blocco e identificati.

I cortei partono nella tarda mattinata, le 13 circa, e seguno il percorso prestabilito senza troppe difficoltà. Il corteo radicale viene provocato diverse volte dalla polizia, schierata in forze e in assetto antisommossa. La polizia tenta di schierarsi ai lati dei cordoni o di inserirsi all’interno del corteo ma viene respinta con determinatezza. Sono presenti reparti provenienti da diverse regioni (Landespolizei, in verde) e la polizia federale (Bundespolizei, vestita di nero). Le Unità 23 e 25 della polizia di Berlino vengono identificate come le più aggressive.

I cortei raggiungono verso le 15 nella zona del porto dove sono previsti interventi dal palco e un concerto nel pomeriggio. Mentre la parte finale del corteo radicale raggiunge il porto viene attaccata dalla polizia. Le cariche accendono duri scontri che si trascinano fino alla piazza del porto. Il corteo si difende con forza, la strada viene bloccata con auto e cassonetti. Dopo alcuni minuti di fronteggiamenti la polizia si ritira dal porto e si schiera ai margini della strada, continuando per alcune ore ad avanzare e indietreggiare, bloccando le vie d’accesso laterali al porto. Durante gli scontri alcuni manifestanti e fotografi vengono aggrediti e feriti, la polizia usa tonfa e pepper-spray. In serata si parlerà di oltre 100 agenti feriti 3 in modo grave. Alle 17 la polizia carica duramente la piazza e inizia ad arrestare i manifestanti fermati (secondo il Forum Legale alle 18:00 si trovavano fermate in stazione circa un centinaio di persone ma verso le 20:00 la maggior parte dei fermati verrà stata rilasciata). Negli scontri vengono utilizzati anche gli idranti per disperdere la folla e rimarranno a presidiare la piazza anche durante il concerto. In serata gli scontri si spostano fuori dal Camp Rostock dove circa 200 persone organizzano un corteo spontaneo di solidarietà per dirigersi verso il carcere ma vengono bloccate da polizia con idranti poco fuori dal campeggio. Nella serata, 23.30, in ‘Doberaner Platz’ a Rostock viene organizzata una Reclaim-the-Streets, la polizia è presente ma non interviene. All’1.15 cinque squadre antisommossa hanno interrotto la festa in maniera molto violenta senza alcun motivo, attaccando i partecipanti con manganelli scatenando una caccia all’uomo per le vie di Rostock e trattenendo per poco meno di un ora i partecipanti alla Reclaim the street.

Nederlands, G8 summit/Utrecht(NL): last bicycle caravanist* finally

After a surprising and completely unwarrented arrest of around 100 bicycle activists and members of the “Gr8chaoskaravaan” western european anti G8 bike caravan on Saturday the last arrestee was finally release last night.

Arrestees report of police violence and ill arrest conditions. Legal consequences for both activists and police. — Last night the last of the 100 anti G8 bicycle activists who were arrested in Utrecht (Netherlands) on Saturday was finally released after 48 hours in jail. In what was obviously a prepared police operation, participants of the bicycle caravan and supporters were arrested on Saturday while trying to leave the city.

The cylists where surprised when without prior warning a special unit and horseback (beritten) police suddenly charged the bicycle ride with battons drawn, one police van even driving right into the riders and hitting one bicycle. The police then proceeded to arrest all members on the pretext of not using the bicycle path. Bicycles were confiscated and removed with many being damaged and locks broken. Demonstrators later reported that police used disproportional violence during the arrests.

Ill treatment continued during the arrest. For several hours the demonstrators were detained in overcrowded cells – 25 people in a 4×4 m cell – where they suffered from anoxia caused by lacking ventilation and were deprived of food. While the first demonstrators were released during the night, a growing number of reports about police intimidation came in. “They told us that what they had done today was tolerant
compared to what they would do if we continued to carry out the actions we had planned” says Antje, a caravan participant.

The arrests were as surprising for the international members of the caravan as they were for the dutch activists. “It was a very unusual police action for dutch circumstances” said Antje, dutch activist and caravan member. “I have been doing bicycle actions for years and can’t remember something like this happening.” Andree Narres from the info office of the bicycle caravans is outraged: “I can’t find any other plausible explanation than politics and police doing what they can to prevent, harass and criminalise all protests even ahead of the G8 summit.” According to him the action may have been planned to make the bicycle caravans entry into Germany harder. “The police didn’t charge the cyclists with the mere regulatory offence of not using the bicycle path but of not obeying police orders, an offense that leads to a court hearing.”

“We won’t let them intimidate us”, said Antje. Indeed several released members of the caravan participated in the actions that had been planned together with local activists for Sunday despite of the night-long and cumbersome arrests. In nearby Zeist, around 60 people participated in an antiracist inspection of a deportation camp and in Utrecht 50 people gathered infront of the police headquarters for a loud protest demonstration. However, the caravan was unable to maintain its original schedule and thus, the political groups in Nijmwegen, who had planned to start their Anti-G8 action days together with the caravan had to do so alone.

On monday, a part of the caravan arrived in Nijmwegen and joined local activists for a number of bicycle actions. After the release of the last arrestee, the remaining caravan members who had stayed in Utrecht to support the prisoners drove to Nijmwegen from where the caravan will leave today.

Not only the arrestees will face legal consequences because of Saturdays events in Utrecht. The legal team Utrecht together with many victims of the police action wants to hold the police responsible for indiscriminate use of violence and illegal arrest conditions. Also, the
police faces charges of damaging property for damaging bicycles and breaking locks.

Here is an update on the 100 cyclists and Gr8chaoskaravaan members arrested at the anti-G8 demonstration in Utrecht today. The arrests began at around 3:00 pm. According to dutch activists, the police was well-prepared and had clearly planned this actions aforehand. According to one source, the police acted quite violently, although there has been no confirmation of this so far.All participants in the demonstration were arrested for not driving on the bicycle way and disobeying police orders, which apparantly is a heavy offence. So far, only one person has been released. As far as is known now, 50 people carrying passports with them have been brough to court, so far one of them has been released. It is yet unclear where the people without passpord have been brought to. The police can detain people without valid ID for up to 3 days.The bicycles have all been confiscated and taken away. The depot will be closed on sunday so it won’t be possible to retrieve these bikes before monday 8:00 am. But it is yet unclear if the police will be willing to return the bikes to demonstrators who can not “prove” they own their bike.

The police claim they detained 93 people for obstruction of movement and disobeying police orders – which, according to dutch law, is a heavy offence.

In Utrecht there will be a solidarity action at 9:30 pm – meet at the station square 7 if you can come!

This is clearly an attempt to prevent protest and public activities ahead of the G8 protests. Do not allow this to happen! Make this news public, organise protest actions in your towns, infront of dutch embassies – until all detainees are released and have their bikes returned!

The Gr8chaoskaravaan is one of 6 caravans which are trying to draw attention to the G8 protests and emancipatory struggles ahead of the upcoming G8 summit in Heiligendamm. The Gr8chaoskaravaan was meant to leave for Nijmwegen tomorrow where a number of actions were planned to take place.

one of the five bike caravans is starting towards Rostock to participate
in the protests against the G8 summit (June 6th-8th in Heiligendamm).

As a prelude there will cruise a ‘critical mass’ through the city of
Gent on April 27th.
At the moment the preparations for the West-Tour, from Gent (Belgium),
via the Netherlands and nothern Germany, are in progress.

“We count on starting with around 20 people, but we expect that much
more people will join!” Sida Singer said “Together we want to set a
signal against neoliberalism, exploitation, racism, pollution and
everybody who shares our ideas is welcome. We want to raise awareness
among the people and let them dream about a livable future for every
human in this world, and this is worth fighting for.” Proudly she shows
her banner, “futureworkshop” is written on it.

We do this not only to catch attention, but also to get in touch with
the people on the street and to discuss with them.
During their tour of around 1300 kilometers the activists coming from
different countries will take part in bicycle demonstrations “critical
masses”, theatres and other political actions.
On the route through cities like Antwerpen, Nijmegen, Gronau/Ahaus,
Muenster, Hamburg and Gorleben they will deal with subjects related to
the meeting of the G8. These are for instace the racist
migrationpolitics of fortress europe, genetic manipulation and
exploitation of the earth, and the involvement of the G8 in wars all
over the world, for instance in Afghanistan or Iraq.

The events and actions are prepared by supporters hosting the caravan at
different stations.“We want to use our time together for exchange and to
build networks with various local groups from different backgrounds”
Paula Farin explains.
The cyclists do not want to take part in the whole neoliberal circus and
the division of people along racist and economic criteria. They consider
the caravan as a place for experiments where they can realize their
ideas and ideals (even if only temporarily). The aim is to create a
non-hierarchical structure during the ride, allowing people to learn and
act in a self-organised manner. The caravan wants to make it possible
for all people to participate, regardless of money, bicycle, physical
condition or papers.

The five caravans will meet on the military testing ground called
“Bombodrom” near Wittstock in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on the first of
June and participate in the actions there. Further they will join the
protests around Heiligendamm.
